Why Forest Projects with WWF International?
Forests are the lungs of our planet, playing a crucial role in capturing carbon from the atmosphere and safeguarding global biodiversity. WWF International's expertise in forest conservation ensures that new trees are planted where they are most needed and that existing forests are preserved, contributing to a healthier planet.
Commitment to the 1.5°C Reduction Target
Aligned with the latest climate science, we are committed to limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Our targets, approved by the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi), reflect our ambition to lead the change in global corporate climate action and meet the Paris Agreement's 1.5°C path.
How Do We Achieve This?
Through our partnership with WWF, RiverTree Skylights finances forest protection and restoration projects, capturing the equivalent of our historical emissions from operations since 1941 and up until 2041. This initiative represents our dedication to making a positive impact on the environment and taking responsibility for our historical carbon footprint.
Our Skylights and the Environment
Wood is a primary material in most VELUX skylights, and we take our responsibility seriously to ensure that our wood sourcing does not negatively impact the environment or forest biodiversity. In 2019, 99.6% of the wood used for VELUX Skylights in Europe was sourced from certified sustainable forests. Our commitment to product sustainability is at the core of our Sustainability Strategy 2030, aiming to halve our products' CO2 emissions and make our packaging single-material, zero-plastic, and 100% recyclable by 2030.
